UFI BioLogs™

A choice of three flexible platforms offers ambulatory recording to fit your research budget

These 3991/3 ThA BioLogs™ record two channels of internal temperature data and one channel of ambient temperature. Paul Ponganis, M.D., Ph.D. (Scripps Institute of Oceanography, University of California at San Diego) used these BioLogs to study body temperatures in diving Emperor Penguins in Antarctica. Dr. Ponganis has been using a variety of our BioLogs for over a decade now. Typical output is shown below.

Numerous other researchers have been satisfied users of UFI BioLogs; John W. Denver, Ph.D., Research Assistant Professor at the Brain-Body Center, Dept. of Psychiatry, University of Illinois at Chicago has been kind enough to offer a testimonial.

An introduction to UFI BioLogs

The BioLog is a rugged, yet flexible, ambulatory physiological data recorder that supports a broad line of signal conditioners. Three easily customized platforms -- the 3991, 3992 and 3993 -- are available to fit many physiological research recording needs.

In addition to the models featured on this page, UFI also makes a line of BioLogs, the 3991-SCL series, that are specially designed for menopausal hot flash monitoring research. Still another new line of BioLogs, the UUB series developed since 2008, has proved very popular with resarchers who require very small. low-power physiological data loggers, especially for underwater and avian use.

Conditioned data are sampled at the desired resolution (8, 12, or 16 bits) under microprocessor control. Recorded data are compactly stored in internal memory (3991) or on a removable SD memory card (3992 and 3993). In either case, when recording is complete, a BioLog Interface Box connects the BioLog to a USB port on the user's PC for data download.

UFI Downloading and Plotting Software (DPS) running on the host PC supervises data download a hard disk file. From there it can be viewed, printed, moved to the clipboard, or converted into ASCII data files for further analysis with Excel and many other data analysis packages.

Model 3991BIB Interface Box

The Interface Box mediates between the PC running the DPS software and the BioLog. The box connects the BioLog to the host PC through one of the PC's USB ports with a standard USB cable. The Interface Box connects to the BioLog through the "Link" Cable.
